The Sindh Cultural Day also known as the Sindhi Topi Day (Ekta Day) was observed in full zeal on December 13 instead of the customary first Sunday of December.

The delay in celebrations this year was because of the local body elections held on December 5 and the corruption cases pending against various leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party such as Sharjeel Memon and Asif Ali Zardari, who have run away to Dubai to escape investigation by local authorities.

The Ekta (Unity) Day displays solidarity among the Sindhi-speaking masses. Since December 6, 2009, the day is celebrated throughout Sindh including Karachi, as a result of Anchorman Dr Shahid Masood’s criticism of President Asif Ali Zardari for wearing a Sindhi cap on his foreign tours.

This year’s Sindh Cultural Day was celebrated with various musical programmes and rallies held across the province with full zeal. Sindhi Ajrak and Sindhi Topi were among the top priorities in clothing and exchange of gifts on the day.

On Twitter, a large Sindhi audience started trending #SindhCulturalDay2015 and have expressed their feelings on the day that unites them.
